We ordered delivery to our hotel tonight. Delivery was quick and the food was hot when it arrived. The Kung Pao Chicken was fantastic. It wasn't very spicy so if you are used to a lot of heat you probably won't like this much. Serving was very generous and flavor was great. I really enjoyed it.

My daughter ordered the veggie friend rice and was disappointed that it didn't have much flavor. We should have ordered some extra soy sauce and know now in retrospect.

We'd order from China River again if given the chance.

    REVIEW FOR TAKE-OUT/DELIVERY ONLY

Ordered delivery through Grubhub based on location and the great reviews I read.

Overall we were underwhelmed with the meal. Normally I find it hard to stop myself from eating too much with any style of Asian or Thai food, but in this case I found it hard to convince myself to eat enough to be full at all.

The experience could be different in the restaurant, but the food we had from delivery was disappointing. A short breakdown of what we ordered and our thoughts:

Side of Garlic Sauce - Was not in the order, but was paid for.

Pork Dumplings with Chili Oil Sauce - Undercooked and all smashed together. Flavor was good initially, but the filling inside was undercooked.

Chicken with Garlic Sauce - Great mix of veggies and chicken that was cooked well, but the flavor was very lacking.

Chicken Lo Mein - Great lo mein. No complaints here!

General Tso's Chicken - The flavor was also underwhelming in this dish, we didn't eat very much.

This is probably the worst restaurant in NYC.  The chef no nothing about cooking.  The bun and the pancake are some ordinary frozen food you can buy from Supermarket.

Worst part they over charge you for the tips. The give you a bill and didn't tell you they have already included that.  Disgusting food and person. Try to avoid at all means.

4 stars: 5 stars for their peppercorn fish dish which is really good, 3-3.5 stars for a lot of other dishes.

I've been to this place lots of times and the experience has been uneven depending on what we ordered.  The peppercorn fish dish is really great if you like spicy greasy numbing Sichuan food and your seafood fresh.  The fish is REALLY thinly sliced which I haven't seen at other places.  (Message me if you know another place that does this well.). This usually says 1) the fish is fresh, 2) chef has mad knifework skillz.

Other stuff is hit and miss.  I also enjoy the seafood asparagus soup sometimes.

The menu has pictures which is a plus.

Don't expect much from the ambiance.  It's a Sichuan resto in Times Square...

    Not recommend at all!
I came here about one year ago and thought it is a really good place for Chinese spicy food. So I brought another friend here and highly recommended this place. Now I think he wants to break up with me....
The menu is totally different and most foods look American style instead of Chinese food.
The eggplant and bean is too salty. The crispy beef is like thin fries and I cannot feel any beef at all - and they charge it for $20 ?!!!! We ordered one appetizer (I forgot the photo) which is totally different from last time...
Anyway I don't think I will come back again...
